I remember Charles Chips very well. Back in the early 1960s, we had them delivered to our home. I can remember when that tan colored delivery truck would pull into our driveway and the man would get several of those big tins of snacks and walk up to the back door. If we were home, we would let him in and he would set them on the kitchen table. If we were not home he would stack them on the porch. Back then there were no porch pirates laying in wait to steal anything out in the open. Even large tins of chips and other snack were fairly safe from scumbags.
I don't remember if mom paid the driver or sent the payment. But the chips kept coming month after month. We received potato chips, pretzels, cookies and cheese curls when those were offered. I remember sitting on the floor in front of the sofa and watching Bonanza, Gunsmoke and the Rifleman while munching on Charles Chips. The large tin container seemed to keep the chips fresh for an extended time. I still have one of the large tins.
I have not had a Charles Chip for well over 58-years. But I do remember them and can still taste them. I don't know if the chips today taste like they once did or not. But they were good back then.
